In a major update regarding the JioHotstar domain controversy, the Delhi-based app developer who purchased the domain has decided to take the site offline. In a heartfelt letter, he explained his decision, sharing that his parents were deeply concerned after the story went viral. Grateful for the support and pro bono legal help he received, he said, "My parents are super worried… I didn’t expect this to go so viral. A legal battle might be manageable, but convincing my parents is tough."
Initially, he acquired the domain hoping to fund his dream of studying at Cambridge University by potentially negotiating with Reliance Industries. However, after Reliance reportedly declined his offer of Rs 1 crore for the domain, he acknowledged the complications of taking on a large corporation without ample resources. Despite advice from many to retain the domain, he has chosen not to escalate the matter, saying he hopes Reliance might still consider a fair offer.
In his closing, he expressed thanks to everyone who supported him, adding humor about being mistaken for a "super-smart hacker." He left the door open for others interested in purchasing the domain, noting, "I had no malicious intent, just hope for a better future."
